«Hagop Meghabard-Ourpatakirk» Miniature replica of the monument.
On October 30, 2024, the artist Raffi Yedalian donated to the Museum of Matenadaran in Yerevan, Armenia, the bronze sculpture, miniature replica of his monument of “Hagop Meghabard-Ourpatakirk”.
The monument in bronze of «Hagop Meghabard» (who published the first printed book «Ourpatakirk» in the Armenian language in Venice in 1512) was sculpted by the artist Yedalian in 2012, to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the first Armenian printed book. The monument is located at the Patriarchal Congregation of Bzommar in Lebanon.
The solemn unveiling and blessing ceremony of the monument was officiated by His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI on September 15, 2012.
A miniature replica in bronze of the monument is also part of His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI’s collection in Vatican City.
In his speech, the director of the Matenadaran Ara Khzmalyan emphasized the significance of creatively reinterpreting and appropriating past values, an essential focus of the exhibition activities in Matenadaran.
He expressed that this approach helps to renew our perspective on renowned figures from the Middle Ages, allowing them to serve as a lasting source of inspiration.
The sculpture is displayed as part of the museum’s permanent exhibition, alongside the “Ourpatakirk” (Friday Book).
